Rod Vault Extensions

Custom extension pieces for a fly fishing Rod Vault. This customer has a Thule bed rack system on his truck that he uses for all kinds of recreational gear. The Thule racks are height adjustable but he ran into a problem when he had both his Rod Vault and cargo basket installed. In order for his Rod Vault to clear the cab of his truck, the racks had to be fully extended. If he added the cargo basket as well, the whole system was too tall and well over the cab affecting fuel mileage and clearance. By installing these extensions, he is able to leave his Thule rack in a position that keeps his cargo basket below the cab while also allowing him to carry his Rod Vault over the cab.

The mounts are formed to match the oval shape of the Thule crossbars and the bolt holes are sleeved to provide a secure mount without crushing or otherwise damaging the Thule racks. The new “crossbars” that the Rod Vault attaches to are formed to match the triangle profile of the Rod Vault base. Overall, the setup is incredibly solid and secure and the client has reported that it’s held up to hundreds of miles of washboard dirt roads, snagging low hanging branches, and overall life on the road.
